Terrorism was a major feature of events in Kansas and Virginia in the years leading up to the American Civil War of 1861. The American civil war was a civil war in the United States fought from 1861 to 1865. The Union faced "secessionists" in eleven Southern states, they incorporated together as the Confederate States of America. resulting in the Union winning the war, this remains to be one of the bloodiest times in U.S. history. The main factors that contribute to the war was the issue of slavery, especially the extension of slavery into the western territories.
In 1856 violence erupted between pro-slavery and anti-slavery settlers in Kansas. creating a pre-civil war in Kansas The sack of Lawrence and the massacre at Pottawatomie triggered a brutal guerrilla war in Kansas. By the end of 1856, over 200 people would be gunned down. Resulting in massive property damage approximately millions of dollars in damages. The Pottawatomie war was led by abolitionist John Brown. ledding the attack on a pro-slavery settlement at Pottawatomie Creek. On the night of May 24, Brown and followers were armed with rifles, knives, and broadswords, entering the houses of his enemies. One by one, brown and followers dragged out victims and hacked at their heads with the broadswords. Five victims brutally murdered.
Unfortunately more offenses continued to occur, the rise of "white supremacy" produce the KKK and other pro-slavery groups to encourage hatred and vilonce among the African Americans to ensure America becomes a whitter world.
